Hunting Safaris

Bhejane Safaris bases it safari operation out of the Bhejane Game Reserve and was established in 2001. We fully embrace the concept of “Conservation through Utilization” as the future of all game species depends on their offering economic benefit to the landowners. Hunting is perhaps the most important conservation tool to ensure the future of these unique species as it gives incentive to landowners to protect and ensure propagation of the species. Selective harvesting of the older male animals allows investment into repopulation of the species.

The reserve is located in the far western part of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. While we hunt many of the targeted species on our own ranch, we also have signed concession agreements with other private landowners giving us hunting access to over 100,000 acres of very diverse terrain. This is done to ensure the hunters have access to the additional trophy quality species which may not be located on Bhejane Game Reserve.
Bhejane Game Reserve covers 20 square kilometers of the Groot River valley and is located 30 miles north of the farming town of Willowmore. One of South Africa’s best kept nature secrets, the Baviaanskloof, is located less than 60 miles from our reserve and is being developed by the government as a big five reserve. The farm spans the valley from mountain top to mountain top and includes over 5 kilometers of river bottom. The reserve is home to 26 hoofed species as well as a host of other animals including predators. While South Africa does not allow the hunting of Leopard in the Eastern Cape, numerous sightings have occurred in the area.

Our hunting reserve and hunting concessions offer an abundance of superb trophies. We conduct all of our hunting in the traditional walk and stalk manner. Due to the vast distances to be covered in a typical hunting day we will move by vehicle until trophies are spotted. After spotting the target species we offload from vehicles and plan a stalk. Many times the animals are spotted at long distances and it requires stalks that could last for hours. For this reason hunters should be reasonably fit as the terrain will normally provide for a very challenging hunt
